In the absence of an intentional Christian community network in the UK, and in the desire to support intentional Christian communities in the UK, here is an ad for an upcoming community internship opportunity!
It would be immensely appreciated if you could share this ad with your churches, university chaplaincies and/or other faith communities to help reach people whose lives could be transformed by such an opportunity.
If you get in touch via email I can also send you a PDF of the below poster to print and place in newsletters and/or noticeboards.
Thank you!!
Join L'Arche’s Soulful Internship for a year of care, community, and connection.
L'Arche is an international network of intentional communities made up of people with and without learning disabilities sharing life. We have 11 communities in England, Scotland, and Wales and this year are celebrating our fiftieth birthday of L’Arche in the UK. Faith and spirituality is at the heart of what we do. We began life as a Catholic community and have been on a journey since to welcome in people of different spiritual backgrounds, whilst still holding true to our mission of transforming the world through relationship and community.
We’re celebrating our fiftieth anniversary of L’Arche in the UK this year and our theme is ‘joyful rebellion’. Sharing life as people with and without learning disabilities is a rebellion against a care sector that doesn’t care, and a society that too often sees people with learning disabilities as less than human, incapable of relationship or creativity. But we live that rebellion with immense joy – when you live in a L’Arche community, speaking from my own experience, life is noisy, fun, and messy. We think that the biggest way we can transform people, and thus society, is by welcoming people into our communities.
So we’re inviting people to come and live and work in our communities for a year. The Soulful Internship is a year-long programme designed for people with a sense of their own spirituality and potential who are seeking a space of discernment and growth. Interns live in a L’Arche house and offer 32 hours a week supporting our members with a learning disability. At the same time, they are guided through a course led by L’Arche all about deepening spiritual life, exploring embodied methods of prayer, and the holiness of care. Interns will meet weekly as a cohort with a facilitator and attend three retreats over the year. The SI is open to people of all faiths and my hope is that we will have a cohort of people of diverse faith backgrounds. Please note that you will need the right to work in the UK.
